Mar. 13th, 2020 04:36 pmIs there a YouTube fandom you've been trying to get people into? A weekly livestream, online gallery, or long read article you think people would enjoy? This is the place to post recs for any media not covered by the books, shows, movies, games, and audio posts.

Do you like comic books? Especially when they go off the rails? *points down*

Description: Sasha is a Canadin woman who reads a variety of comics. In this channel, she discusses random comic book storylines (such as when Batman was abducted by aliens, that time Steve Rogers was a werewolf, and Black Cat going against a literal ghost dog).
Comments: Sasha's attitude is YES in her approach to comics. Which I find refreshing because she offers good criticism without leaning too hard into being OTT negative. But she's mainly into comic books to have fun and that comes across her videos. Most of them are on the 15-min range.
Oh, and she also has a YT channel dedicated to ships and shipping that's pretty cool too.

Description: Heidi is a costume designer who discusses costumes from a variety of (so far) Western media. If you're the kind of person who swoons when you see a character wearing something impressive, you might want to check out this channel.
Comments: The media covered includes GoT, The Expanse, The Witcher, and other IPs. Most of the videos tend to be lenghtier-than-expected but deffo worth it if you like costume design.

Description: The Bon Appetit test kitchen folks do a bunch of random stuff! There are a number of different kinds / series of videos. I, personally, love Gourmet Makes where Claire Saffitz recreates various snack foods & Recreating [name of dish] with Chris Morocco where he blindfold tastes/smells/touches(/hears?) a dish and has to recreate it; both of those show people who are great at their jobs getting to be creative and testing their skill set and I find them both really entertaining. But there's a bunch of other videos of all sorts and a lot of cross-overs with the people in different videos, so once you've watched a few you can look out for videos with your favorite people (i.e. if you really like Brad or Andy or Christina or Molly or whoever, etc you can start to look for videos that feature them).
Comments: I feel like I kind of got into this territory in my description, but basically: I like watching competent people be good at their jobs and tackle hard problems. Everyone respects everyone else's talents and generally is there to be supportive, albeit sometimes in a teasing / laughing at your ~pain~ kind of way. It reminds me of The Great British Bake-Off in some ways, but without the competition element. I also like food & learning about food, so I find it fun on that level as well. It's also decent if you're looking for media that has some diversity going on.

Description: It sounds bonkers, but it's videos (ranging from 2 mins. to 12 mins.) featuring marbles racing each other. There are teams and commentary in each video.
Comments: It's low-pressure fun stuff to watch if you want something different but lulzy.
