Episodes to date: There are 17 episodes from 2016, which ... are great but only if you also want to relive the 2016 US presidential election. There are a few mix tapes, which are great for all times and places and situations. And then, for the 2020 reboot, there are so far three episodes, with more coming until the November US election.
Description: Two childhood friends use PredictIt.org to win and lose money by betting on various things related to the 2020 US election. (Plus the awesome Starlee Kine.)
Comments: Well. This probably isn't what you should listen to if you want to detach yourself from politics. But, content aside, the original 2016 run was a really innovate, funny, bizarre podcast about three people's very specific liberal political outlooks and how they dealt with the election (aka by betting money on it); funny, that is, until episode 17, recorded the day after the 2016 presidential election, which is probably one of the most depressing 42 minutes of content ever created. So far the 2020 version (I've listened to the first two episodes) shows the three hosts as being less idealistic and less excited about risk. They know that things can go horribly horribly wrong: the presidential candidate you hate can win and in the process you can lose thousands of dollars. But even though the stakes feel higher this time around, it's still a compelling exploration of three people's politics and their very specific world views, it's still zany, and David Rees still is the best at ranting out of everyone on the whole planet.

Date: 2020-03-14 04:22 am (UTC)Album: The Gereg is their first and so far only album
Song: Yuve Yuve Yu: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4xZUr0BEfE & Wolf Totem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jM8dCGIm6yc
Genre: Mongolian heavy metal w/ traditional Mongolian instrumentation and throat singing????
Comments: I heard this a few months ago and I didn't know what the fuck I was hearing. For when you need to get revved up for the gym, to do work, or to take down an enemy army. I also love their music videos and the way that they blend traditional and modern.

Date: 2020-03-14 02:49 pm (UTC)Description: A 1945 radio play for US troops in WWII featuring Hollywood stars. Command Performance was a radio show for the troops, but this particular episode is probably the most famous and is a stand alone.
Comments: I somehow got a CD of this when I was a kid and I fell in love and listened to it all the time. It's just a bunch of ridiculousness with some parody songs thrown in for fun. It's not what I would call a GREAT script, but there are still lines in it that I think of all the time. And for lovers of old school cinema and music it's fun to play spot the performer. Plus it's something a bit different so it's also kind of fascinating as a historical artifact.

Episodes to date: 10-episode Season 1, with one minisode. Total listening time is currently <7 hours.
Description: Sci-fi podcast about space, survival, found family, & resistance (Also there's jokes)
Comments: If you like sweet canon f/f between leads, delicious loyalty kink, funny banter and a tight-knit spaceship crew struggling through very unfair circumstances, this is the podcast for you! Did I mention there are purple aliens?

Episodes to date: There’s currently six seasons, but the podcast app I use doesn’t list the first season and starts from Season 2. There’s no plot though, so it works out.
Description: Adults read excerpts from their childhood diaries and such to a live audience.
Comments: This is good if you want something without any plot. The topics covered in the readings varies, and can include topics such as crushes/sexuality, various forms of discrimination, and poems/short stories.

Episodes to date: 72
Description: Mike and Sarah are journalists obsessed with the past. Every week they reconsider an event or person or trend that's been miscast in the public imagination.
Comments: The episode about human trafficking has become mandatory training at my office; a You're Wrong About episode was also the basis for Mike's article about poor treatment of obesity in the medical community that has been linked on DW many times.

Date: 2020-03-18 08:18 pm (UTC)Creator: Erin Welsh & Erin Allman Updyke
Episodes to date: 46
Description: Grad students studying disease ecology, Erin and Erin found themselves disenchanted with the insular world of academia. They wanted a way to share their love of epidemics and weird medical mysteries with the world, not just colleagues. Plus, who doesn't love an excuse to have a cocktail while chatting about pus and poop?
Comments: Career relevant to me & I fell in love with it. And yes, they really do have a cocktail or mocktail for every disease they cover; all of the recipes can be found on their website (thispodcastwillkillyou.com).
